In an increasingly complex and heterogeneous environment, significant effort is required to efficiently work with data and other digital objects. The Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) principles were elaborated to tackle these problems, describing a minimal set of requirements for data stewardship towards higher data reusability. The FAIR principles have been gaining significant attention in different areas of the society, crossing international borders and, knowledge and application domains. A number of initiatives such as GO-FAIR, the Research Data Alliance (RDA) and the permanent Committee on Data of the International Council for Science (CODATA) are focusing on different aspects of FAIR.
In order to improve findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability of different types of digital objects at scale, the FAIR principles focus on machine actionability. Therefore, a critical aspect to achieve this machine actionability is semantics. Proper semantic descriptions should be available to make "intelligible" for computational agents the elements of a FAIR data ecosystem such as data policies, data management plans, identifier mechanisms, standards, FAIRification processes, FAIRness assessment criteria and methods, data repositories and supporting tools.
The goal of the workshop on Conceptual Modeling, Ontologies and Metadata Management for FAIR Data is to discuss challenges, solutions and impact of, for one side, the use of conceptual modeling and metadata and data management to support the improvement of FAIRness in digital objects and, for the other side, the adoption of the FAIR principles to guide improvements in conceptual modeling.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year the conference, and related workshops, will be online. For each accepted papers at least one of the authors should have a paid registration. Other authors as well as people interested in attending the sessions can register for free.

Keynote: Giancarlo Guizzardi
Ontology, Interoperability and the "I" of FAIR
Short bio: Giancarlo Guizzardi is a Professor of Computer Science at the Free University of Bolzano-Bozen, Italy, where he leads the Conceptual and Cognitive Modeling Research Group (CORE). He is also a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Twente, The Netherlands. He has been active for more than two decades in the areas of Conceptual Modeling, Knowledge Representation, and Information Systems Engineering, working with a multi-disciplinary approach that combines results from Formal Ontology, Cognitive Science, Logics, and Linguistics. He has authored 300 peer-reviewed publications, which received more than a dozen international awards. Moreover, he has been a keynote speaker in more than two-dozen international events (e.g., ER 2014, BPM 2016). He is currently an associate editor for the Applied Ontology journal and for Data & Knowledge Engineering and a member of a number of international journal editorial boards. Finally, he is a member of the ER Steering Committee and of the Advisory Board of the International Association for Ontology and its Applications (IAOA).
Authors should consult Springer’s authors’ guidelines and use their proceedings templates, either for LaTeX or for Word, for the preparation of their papers. Springer encourages authors to include their ORCIDs in their papers. In addition, the corresponding author of each paper, acting on behalf of all of the authors of that paper, must complete and sign a Consent-to-Publish form. The corresponding author signing the copyright form should match the corresponding author marked on the paper. Once the files have been sent to Springer, changes relating to the authorship of the papers cannot be made. Papers must not exceed 10 pages (including figures, references, etc.) in length using the LNCS template. Submissions are handled in the EasyChair system. Click here to submit your paper.
